"I'm
a real local" campaign
"faces"
Who better to promote the “I’m
real local”campaign, than some of Innisfail’s freshest home-grown
talent?
Billy Slater, Natalie Zahra and
Ty Williams were all born and raised in Innisfail. Their wide-ranging
talents were nurtured here. Now they are ready to take on the world
– but they have not lost sight of what’s important about their
hometown.
They didn’t think twice, when
asked to promote the “I’m a real local campaign”. They explain
why below.
Australian
Idol performer and singer-song writer, Natalie Zahra
“We all know that Innisfail has a strong sense
of community – Cyclone Larry proved that! But sometimes we
need to be reminded why it is strong.
“The “I’m a real local” campaign aims to make
sure we remember that local businesses are part of the backbone
of our community: they not only supply goods and services,
they provide employment as well. And they always get behind
community causes.
“To keep our community strong, we need to make
sure our local businesses continue to thrive.”

Melbourne
Storm full-back, Billy Slater
“When I come home, it’s
great to see local businesses still thriving in Innisfail.
I’ve known a lot of those business owners since I was a kid
– and they remember me.
“That’s what’s I like about
Innisfail and I know most people feel the same way. The business
owners here are part of the community, not just some anonymous
multi-national company.
“So when you shop local,
you aren’t just supporting local businesses, you are supporting
your community as well. And it’s a great community!”

NQ Cowboys
centre-wing, Ty Williams
"Born and bred in Innisfail, I know how important customer
loyalty is for local businesses. I believe the 'I'm a real local
'campaign is a good way to remind Innisfail residents that without
their support, local businesses would not survive."

“I’m
a real local” campaign champions
Well-respected
locals and community leaders appreciate the important role
that local businesses play in the daily life of the community
– and their crucial role in the long-term prosperity of the
community.
“I’m a real local” campaign champions,
Richard Graham, Merle McAlonan and Vince
Vandeleur are keen
to raise community awareness of the importance of shopping
locally. They share their views below…
|
Innisfail
High deputy principal, Richard Graham
"The great thing about
shopping locally is the people behind the counter. Locals
who care about the product they sell, who know the best
product for you in Innisfail and handy back-up service
and advice.
"People you know, easy and convenient
access and service with a smile - what more could you ask
for?
"Shopping locally also guarantees
local jobs for our youth now and into the future."

Deputy
controller Johnstone SES Unit (SES member for 24 years),
Merle McAlonan
“Real communities
recognise the responsibilities and rewards involved supporting
each other through the good times and the bad times.
“It is
easier to recognise and applaud community spirit in the
face of catastrophes like Cyclone Larry. But it is just
as important to demonstrate community spirit during daily
life – that includes supporting local businesses by shopping
locally.”

Innisfail
solicitor and public notary, Vince Vandeleur
“'Community' is an indispensable part of our lives and
it is simply unethical not to support the community, in
which we live and which nourishes and supports us in so
many different ways, by sourcing goods and services from
local business.”
