“I’m a real local” campaign
Support local businesses and strengthen our community

An initiative of the Innisfail Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Inc, the “I’m a real local” campaign aims to re-affirm the crucial role that local businesses play in the daily life of the Innisfail community.

The campaign is funded by the Australian Government Department of Transport and Regional Services’ Regional Partnerships Program and the Queensland Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry’s Regional Business Development Scheme, Cyclone Larry Special program and the Innisfail Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Inc.

The origins of the campaign lie in the wake of Cyclone Larry, when Innisfail residents began to purchase goods elsewhere, while the devastated Innisfail business district struggled to rebuild and re-open for business.

The campaign objectives centre on the need to generate greater consumer awareness and appreciation of the wide range of goods and services now available in Innisfail and the benefits that flow from consumer loyalty to local businesses.

The success of the “I’m a real local” campaign lies in the hands of the individuals, businesses and community organisations which recognise and wish to help strengthen the important relationship between local shoppers and a healthy local business community.

The campaign will provide locals with many opportunities to demonstrate their support. Business owners who appreciate a bargain are advised to snap up one of the sponsorship packages, while shoppers will no doubt be drawn to the eye-catching campaign merchandise.

A series of colourful campaign events will give everyone an opportunity to celebrate being a “real local” – and perhaps rub shoulders with one of the well-known Innisfail locals who were happy to become campaign “faces”!
